Bookings now survive the whole call, including the part that finishes them

A booking could stop working part-way through a call and never be created. The caller agreed a day and time, gave their email, read the six-digit code back — and nothing was saved. Your receptionist said it would verify the code and submit the request, but the code was never actually checked and no booking appeared in your dashboard. The caller rang off believing they had an appointment.

Two things had to go wrong together, and both were about your receptionist losing track of what the call was for. If a caller started with one thing and switched to another — asking about a refund, then deciding to book instead — the earlier subject could pull the conversation back, so a request for “a week today at three” was answered with today’s times. And once the caller answered a question in ordinary words, your receptionist could decide the call was now a general enquiry; from that point on, the turns that actually finish a booking — an email address, a “yes”, a string of digits — no longer counted as being about the booking at all.

This hit dental and medical practices hardest, and for an unfortunate reason. Describing a symptom was being read as a general health question rather than as the reason for the appointment, so on those businesses the most useful thing a caller could say was the thing most likely to derail the booking.

What happens now. Once a booking is under way it stays under way until it is finished or the caller plainly changes their mind. Saying what an appointment is for keeps you in the booking. Changing your mind still works exactly as before — asking for a refund, a manager or something else entirely switches straight away — and a genuine question is still answered as a question rather than being pulled into the form.
